Why are the Apples of Etna so special?
Etna apples are considered among Sicily's most prized fruits, due to their unique quality and the characteristics of the soil in which they are grown. The cultivation of the Etna apples takes place in the range between 700 and 1,500 meters above sea level, in an area characterized by a particular climate, with cold winters and cool summers, which allows the apples to ripen slowly and acquire an intense and characteristic flavor.
In addition, cultivation still takes place according to the customs and methods of our ancestors, without the use of agricultural machinery due to the steep terrain. Harvesting is done by hand between the end of September and the beginning of November, and transport is still done with so-called panara, or baskets where Etna apples are picked.
This makes the cultivation of the Etna apples a long and delicate process, but one that ensures a product of exceptional quality. In addition, Etna's geographical location, with its volcanic activity, contributes to a soil rich in minerals and nutrients that are then reflected in the quality of the apples.
Finally, their particular texture and sweetness make the Etna apples ideal for the production of jams and preserves, as they are perfectly suited to be turned into a delicacy with a unique and intense flavor.
Etna Apple Extra Jam: the recipe for a delicious tart!
This jam, with no added preservatives or additives, is perfect for making a delicious Etna apple tart. Here is the recipe: Ingredients:

200 g flour

100 gr of sugar

100 gr butter

1 egg

1 jar of extra Fiasconaro Etna apple jam

1 egg yolk
Preparation:

In a bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and cold butter cut into cubes until a sandy mixture is obtained.

Combine the egg and mix quickly until a smooth dough forms.

3. Spread the dough on a tart pan, line with baking paper, and prick the base with a fork.

Pour the Fiasconaro Etna extra apple jam. in the center of the tart and spread evenly over the base.

Beat the egg yolk and brush the tart to brown in a 180-degree oven for about 30 to 40 minutes.

Allow to cool before serving and enjoy the tart with Fiasconaro Etna extra apple jam, accompanied with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dusting of powdered sugar.
